Miamisburg is a city in Ohio’s southern Montgomery County. It celebrated its Bicentennial anniversary in 2018. The journey of Miamisburg started on February 20, 1818, when four men from Pennsylvania, namely Jacob Kercher, Emanuel Gebhart, Dr. Peter Treon, and Dr. John Treon, offered 90 lots for sale at a public auction. The lots containing one-fifth of an acre were in a new town named Miamisburg, which was positioned on Miami River’s left bank. Since around 1797, the small community had been known as “Hole’s Station” when Zachariah Hole from Virginia settled there with his family and constructed a stockade as a shield to stay protected from the Native Americans. Several settlers had come to the region in the interim, mostly from Pennsylvania. The area got its name from the Miami Native American tribe that stayed there by bringing together “Miamis” and “burg,” the latter referring to a town or borough. By 1832, the unincorporated community had turned into a village, but its city “status” came around 100 years later.
